When the going gets tough, the tough get going

As creatives we are full of ideas. Every time I get out of the shower or wake up from a good nights sleep, I have a new idea, a product, a project, or something else. Sometimes these ideas are just things that will help me along on one of my current projects. But more often then not its something new and exciting.

For the new ideas, I will quickly grab my Field Notes to begin sketching and brain storming further pursuing the idea. Many times the idea will just end there but other times, like my podcast for instance, the idea will begin to blossom and grow.

This is what I like to call the idea trajectory, at the beginning we are all excited and full of energy but at some point the newness begins to wear thin and all of a sudden you hit a wall.

The things we do when we hit that wall are what matter most. Those things are what separates the over achievers from everyone else. People who refuse to settle and who continue to work hard through the struggle, through what Seth Godin calls ‘the dip’ are the ones who make the difference. They are the people who build and achieve amazing things.

Can you get through the dip? Can you fight to the finish?
